Venus de la Primavera
Inspired by the painting by Sandro Botticelli (1478)
The painting “Spring” was commissioned by the Medici family for the villa of their cousin Lorenzo with a complex philosophical and poetic meaning. This work has religious, mythological, historical and even musical interpretations. The picture shows 9 mythical heroes (Zephyr, Chlorida, Flora, Venus, Cupid, three graces, Mercury), 3 months of spring, a blossoming and fruiting orange tree.
The Christian theme manifests itself here in the fact that the main character, Spring, resembles Madonna, whose hand seems to bless everyone.
The public saw this picture 437 years after it was painted. It is now in the Uffizi Museum in Florence and is one of the jewels in the collection.
